What is Fresh Start?

Fresh Start is our way of greeting incoming freshmen and assisting them in planning their course of studies at Mercyhurst College. The day is planned to provide essential information for students and parents / guardians including:

Am I scheduled to attend Fresh Start?

The dates for our 2008 events are listed below. Verify your Fresh Start placement

Fresh Start I - Friday, June 27

Last day to register for Fresh Start I is May 30. RSVPs are due by June 3th.

Fresh Start II - Saturday, June 28

Last day to register for Fresh Start II is May 30. RSVPs are due by June 3rd.

Fresh Start III - Friday, July 18

Last day to register for Fresh Start III is June 20. RSVPs are due by June 24th.

Fresh Start IV* - Thursday, August 28

RSVPs are due by August 5th.

*Fresh Start IV is reserved primarily for international and long-distance students (West of the Mississippi River). View the Fresh Start IV schedule.

Follow the steps below to prepare for your Fresh Start.

  1. Choose the Fresh Start date you and your family wish to attend. NOTE: Fall athletes are required to attend Fresh Start I , II, or III. *Fall sports: cross country, field hockey, football, golf, ice hockey, men's water polo, rowing, soccer, tennis, women's volleyball, and wrestling.
  2. Email Joyce Gieza at jgieza@mercyhurst.edu or call her at (814) 824-2299 or (800) 825-1926 ext. 2299 to schedule your Fresh Start. Please act promptly. Each Fresh Start is limited to a maximum of 250 students.
  3. Beginning May 1, verify your Fresh Start placement online. Use the Fresh Start link found on the alpha list of attendees.
  4. If you are exploring your career options, refer to the "Programs of Study" you received in the confirmation packet from Admissions. To ensure that you meet with an appropriate advisor, you will be asked to verify your major on your Fresh Start RSVP.
  5. Promptly return the Fresh Start RSVP, which you will receive several weeks before your scheduled Fresh Start. The information you provide on your RSVP will help us plan for you and your guests. Should you find it necessary to change your Fresh Start date, we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Is this freshman orientation?

No, orientation begins Thursday, August 28, 2008 with dinner in the Egan Cafeteria from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Students who have already attended a Fresh Start will move into their residence hall on Thursday, August 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fresh Start IV attendees will be able to move in on Wednesday, August 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
